Hi Folks
With functions, I know that char(number) will return a character from the ANSII character set.
I also know that Code(character) will return the corresponding number.
I'm trying to return the corresponding number of an ANSII character in VBA, but I notice that "Code" isn't available as a worksheet function.
Could anyone tell me the corresponding VBA function to use please.
Many thanks

Hello All
I wonder if you could help with this one, I have a list of data like this (no spaces or other characters)
JN551122B
What I need to do is split each of the characters in to its own cell
if JN551122B was in cell A1 I'd want to return:
B2 C2 D2 E2 F2 G2 H2 I2 J2
J N 5 5 1 1 2 2 B
The nearest I have got is the right function, but it brings over the preceeding characters, and I need each character in its own cell. Hopefully I could copy/paste a formula and change the reference for each cell value, i.e. 1 would return J, 2 = N, 3 = 5, 4 = 5 etc.
Thanks for your help!

Hello
I have several rows of text data, the first 17 characters of which are in this format (4 letters__DD.MM.YYYY
It's then followed by a variable number of characters i.e.

I would be grateful for a formula that will delete all characters to the right of the 17th character (i.e. the '3').
Many thanks!

I have a large spreadsheet in Excel 2007. I am converting it to a .csv file to import in to another program. I need to delete all commas from all data.
When I try to replace all commas (with nothing or with another character), I get the error message "The formula you typed contains an error."
I have tried various formats (text, general, etc.) and various file types (.xls,.xlsx, .csv) and still get the same error.

I have a UserForm with several fields on it: 5 are 'required' and the other 6 are 'optional'. If a user doesn't enter a value for ALL of the 5 'required' fields, how do I get the code to return the user to the UserForm (with, I assume, the values they already entered, still showing)?
I have the AutoOpen code that starts things off, and then, in turn, loads the UserForm with the fields that need to be populated.
I can't figure out how to route the user back to the UserForm, to enter the 'missed' data.

Hi all
Im very familiar with how to write a macro to automatically autofilter a list based upon a Cell Value (i.e. Range =(A1)...etc.).... but what I cannot figure out how to correctly write is a way to have Excel automatically autofilter a list for any row that CONTAINS the Cell Value, instead of just the exact value.
Cell Value = "birds"
Example I need to filter every row so that I see every row that CONTAINS "birds" in the characterstring, not just the row that = "birds".
a) is this possible?
If not, I'd like to know also so I can stop attempting to guess (;
Thanks!!!

Hi folks,
Hoping someone can help me quickly as I'm pulling my hair out and have a deadline getting too close.
Been trailing the net and this board but can't work out how to do a simple variance.
How do I work out the difference between two numbers including negatives.
If the numbers are all positive, it's fine as it's simply a case of A B = C which is your difference. However, that doesn't work if B is negative.
I need a formula that would give the following:
First Number / Second Number / Difference
1 / 5 / 4
1 / 5 / 6
1 / 5 / 6
1 / 5 / 4
5 / 1 / 4
Hopefully there's a simple function I've been missing.
Thanks in advance, R

I often use if statements to return empty cells, for example:
=IF(a1=0,"ERROR","")
The trailing "" returns an empty cell. The problem is, it is not TRULY empty. If I fill that formula down, I cannot, for example, jump from one "ERROR" cell to the next by hitting Ctrl arrowdown because it seems to think that these empty cells have contents.
Is there a way to designate, in such a formula as above, to return a TRULY empty cell?
Thanks

Hi all,
Probably a simple little function, help would be appreciated!
I'd like to take a number entered into one cell ie. A1 = 20
and split it randomly but evenly over 3 other cells ie.
B1=6
C1=8
D1=6
Number should be whole and no zeros?
Thanks all!

Good afternoon,
Is there a way to enter a colon into a standard number to create a value that can be formatted into a 24 hour time value ?
eg a time is listed as 1345 with a general number format, and I want it returned as 13:45 witha custom format of hh:mm.
Other than creating a table and using a vlookup function, I am hoping there is a better way?
Darren

Hi all.
I have set up a workbook that is sent out to lots of different users. They each keep and use their own copy.
I have set it up so that everything looks OK and is visible on MY screen, but I'm conscious that some users may have different screen sizes, different toolbars set up, and so on, which might make some parts not immediately visible to them.
I have set up an autoexecute macro which automatically sets the zoom factor to best fit, for several of the worksheets, and this works fine.
Here's the code that does it.
Code:
By repeating this code for each worksheet, I can make each one be zoomed just right.
However, the file contains 8 sheets that are all identically laid out, except the number of rows is different.
What I want to do is go to the worksheet that has the largest number of rows (it's always the same worksheet, so I know which one it is), set the zoom factor for THAT worksheet (which I can do, and it always has the same number of rows), and then take THAT zoom factor, whatever it is and it will vary depending on the user and apply that to the other worksheets that have a similar layout.
I could just go through each worksheet and zoom it automatically, but that would mean that some of the sheets looked very large, others very small, and I'd like them to have a consistent appearance.
I could also specify a range on each worksheet that was similar to the appropriate range on the longest worksheet, and zoom that automatically, but that's not ideal either, because some of the row heights vary from sheet to sheet, and again I'll end up with different font sizes.
Anyone know how to do this ?

I am using the following formula to calculate the number of days between a date and the current date: =DATEDIF(A1,TODAY(),"d") What do I add to the formula to leave cell blank if no date is entered in the cell for calculation.
Good afternoon!
I'm working with Excel 2003 sp 3 on Windows xp.
I have been banging my head trying to jar loose the formula to calculate man days where 1 equals 8 hours. I have one that was given to me by a coworker:
=INT(Q3/8)+(((Q3/8)(INT(Q3/8)))*0.8)
That calculates man days from total hours. I need a formula that will total man days and return the man day answer. Example:
weekending 12/25 = 16.2 which is 16 man days and 2 hours
weekending 1/1 = 24.7 which is 24 man days and 7 hours
Total = 41 man days and 1 hour
I have also been asked if there was a way for a number to be entered into a spreadsheet and automatically put in order without a macro or "pushing a button".
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Happy New Year!

I have an excel worksheet that adds two other worksheets in a data
triangle. I copied it to create a new data set and used find &
replace to change the worksheet references to the new ones.
The cells still contain the result of the old formula referring to the
previous worksheets. The only way I can get the formula to return the
correct result is to edit (F2) each cell and press enter. Calc now
(F9) does nothing.
I've seen this before, but this time, I need to calculate many
thousands of cells and don't have time for this workaround.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Hi All,
I am trying to make excel automatically add a leading zero to values which are 5 digits long;
i.e. number input is 15185, then excel automatically changes it to 015185.
If I put a Customer Number Format of 0##### it works, however, a user could put any length of number into these cells, and if the number is less than 5 digits I don't want a leading zero.
Is there any way of writing a small macro to sort this out.
The numbers would be input into range B16:223.
Many thanks,
Andy

Using VBA, I am trying to retrieve the contents of the Source of a web page (the same as would appear if you rightclicked on the page and chose "View Source") into a variable so I can work on it in VBA (using InStr, etc.).
The problem is I can use code such as
strHTMLText = ie.Document.body.innerText
or
strHTMLText = ie.Document.body.outerText
to retrieve the code, but in either case only part, not all, of the source code is captured. I need ALL the code. Is there some kind of code such as ie.Document.body.allText or similar that would perform this function?
Much obliged!

I have a problem sometimes. I will click on a cell to add information.
The cell turns blue and then wherever I move, it highlights those to.
No matter where I go on the page. If I AltTab and work in another
program on my computer, that excel page keeps highlighting wherever
I move even in those other programs (I know this sounds confusing).
When I return to excel thousands and thousands of cells are blue.
The biggest problem is that the highlighting won't turn off, no matter
what. I can't select anything from the tool bars, do any work on the sheet or close the program.
I can close it only with the task manager but when I open it again,
the cursor is still stuck in the highlighting mode and won't perform any
other functions.
Do you think this is a problem with my computer, the excel program? I have changed my mouse and this didn't help.
Is there some shortcut to turn off this highlight feature other than restarting
my computer. Which is the only current way I can get rid of it.
